Top 10 things to do to Become More Intelligent

You didn’t score well in exams like every time. But that doesn’t mean you are not intelligent enough. Intelligence does not guarantee good marks. But yes if you are unable to remember things and unable to answer even very easy questions, you can doubt yourself. It is said that intelligence is a god gift. On the other side, you must have come across the saying, “god helps those, who helps themselves.” What did you get from this? If you believe that you are not god gifted and can’t be intelligent, you are probably wrong. You need to help yourself. If you do efforts, you can win over anything. Hard work and self confidence can make you win over all your weaknesses.

You can take steps to increase your intelligence level. There are many ways you can win over your weaknesses. Here are the ten things you can practise to become intelligent. You need to follow them to claim your intelligence.

10. So, it happens like this!”- Observation

“People’s mind are changed through observation and not through argument”

-Will Rogers

To become intelligent you must observe things around you. When you read something about your daily life or surroundings, look around if the things are like that only. Observe how things happen in actual life. Everything in the book exists in actual as well. When you observe things by yourself it is easy to learn and remember.

9. Surrounded by intelligent people – Company

Talking to an intelligent person is equal to reading a good book”.

To become intelligent you must have an intelligent company. Your peer group affects you a lot, indeed. When you are in company of good people, you become good and vice versa. So, look around you, expand your contacts to people who are in your good books. Talk to them about the things around, this will increase your knowledge.

8. “So, it was invented here!” – Explore

“In any field, find the strangest thing and then explore it.”

-John Archibald Wheeler

To know more about places, there is no other way than exploring. Explore the things and places around you. Sitting at one place and cramming the map book won’t make you remember the things longer. But, when you visit the places yourself and explore the things, the things are slicked to your mind for life long. And this is the way to intelligence. So, increase your curiosity about things and explore them. When you visit a place, explore how things are around, how the people around behave and talk, how they dress up, what culture they follow, what food they eat, what jobs they do, and many more. You won’t ever forget what you explore yourself.

7. “How this happens?”  – Curiosity

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”

-Albert Einstein

Curiosity can also make you intelligent. Being curious about something pushes you to get the answers to your questions. When you are curious about something, you find the answers to your questions everywhere, and while finding the answers to your questions, you get to know many other things as well, apart from your query also. So, put a question mark after everything if you want to become intelligent. Be curious why things are like the way they are?

6. Relax!! – Meditation

“Well, when you’re relaxed, your mind takes you to the whole reality. There’s no such thing as time when you’re really relaxed. That’s why meditation works.”

-Shirley MacLaine

Meditation is very important if you are unable to concentrate. Concentration power is very important to learn and observe things. If you cannot concentrate over what you are reading, writing or whatever is happening around, you cannot possess knowledge. Meditation helps you do that. Relaxing and meditating in a calm place increasing your concentration which increases your learning power.

5. Stir your mind – Games

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”

How can playing make you sharp? Well it does. Anything which involves the use of your mind makes you intelligent. Because the more you use your brain the sharper it gets. Play games which require quality thinking for example puzzles, Sudoku, mind benders etc. When you think about a particular thing, a lot of things along with it come into your mind.

4. Think practical – Application of knowledge

“Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one’s thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world”

Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Stuffing your mind with theory won’t make you intelligent. Just cramming what’s written in the book is not the way to attain knowledge. You need to apply the knowledge in your daily life. You can’t keep your knowledge safe in a locker. Your knowledge turns to intelligence only when you use it. Rusting is the correct word which happens to your knowledge if you do not use it. And it eats up your intelligence. -Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

3. Share your knowledge – Teach

“Everybody who is incapable of learning has taken to teaching.”

-Oscar Wilde

Whenever you read or learn something, always try to share it with someone. “Knowledge shared is knowledge doubled”. When you share your knowledge with someone, you revise it all again, this helps you to remember it forever. When you teach someone you get to understand the concepts more clearly than you ever did. The person whom you are teaching will raise several questions which you can solve together and hence you get to know new things which again add to your knowledge.

2. Pen down – Write

“Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic and fear which is inherent in a human situation.”

-Graham Greene

The practice of writing often makes it easier for you to remember things. When you write something it sets in your mind and you do not forget it easily. Writing brings out the creative part of you. When you pen down your thoughts you write many things you never knew you know. Writing is indeed a good habit. When it comes to intelligence, writing is a required thing.

1. Scan the text – Read

“There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.

-Ray Bradbury

The practice of reading helps you a lot. If you read a lot there are chances that you will remember at least one out of ten things and that adds to your knowledge. Reading also helps in brushing up your vocabulary. You learn new words while reading. It is not necessary to read complicated books to increase your intelligence.  Even reading newspaper on a daily basis can increase your knowledge, a lot. Reading newspaper keeps you updated to the day to day happenings in your surroundings.
